What Nokia N-97 has and 'The Phone' does not!

So here is what 'The Phone' has:
  • Touch Screen
  • Accelerometer Sensor for Auto Rotate
  • Bluetooth - Headset support only
  • 2 MP Camera
  • Built in GPS Receiver
  • Audio/Video Player

And what is missing?
  • Push mail: Push Mail's 'always on' capability is the most important feature of any business phone!
  • Video Recording: No multimedia phone is complete without video recording!
  • Sharing files using bluetooth: Works with only a few wireless headset and does not permit sharing files and pictures!
  • No external memory: Well, am sure you will say you just not need it, so do with the 'limited' space you have!
  • Non removable battery: After a year or two, battery capacity reduces, but a change is just not possible!
  • No cut, copy, paste: And how do you think you will edit documents?
And there is more:
  • Cannot be used as a wireless modem
  • No speed dialing
  • No SMS forwarding
  • No MMS sending
And what does Nokia N97 have? All this, and when I say all this, I mean EACH and EVERY feature I just mentioned, and much more:
  • Does not just have a video recorder, but the camera is 5MP, carl zeiss optics, autofocus with flash, plus a secondary videocall camera
  • Does not just have external memory compatibility upto 16 GB, but has 32 GB of internal memory too
  • And did I mention a QWERTY keyboard other than just the touchscreen
  • SMS forwarding, MMS sending, Speed Dialing, and yes, can be used as a wireless modem
  • Nokia is known for its batteries, and yes, unlike 'The Phone', they are removable
  • And bluetooth is not just for its own headset, but you can share all you want
Need I say more? Or is there even a need to justify or argue which one's better, and why? I guess smartphone users are smart enough to make their own choice! As you can see, I have made mine...

PS: People who had difficulties in identifying 'The Phone' can go bite raw apples, as for them, the grapes are sour!

  1. Amazing Review of Nokia N-97! Seriously its an eye opener for all those ppl goin ga ga about the IPhone!

  2. the problem here is that we really dont know what shape future will take. Are we going towards the ultimate convergence device with N 97?
And people please stop comparing n 97 with Apple I phone. You don't get a qwerty keyboard with an i phone (I am not talking about the touch screen, which in fact i feel is over-rated.) If you are business manager or an office goer who needs to be connected on the phone, N 97 is the phone for you. But if you are that attitude without substance dude from that college who only wants to impress chicks, go for i phone. (All the best with that! ;))
All said and done there are a lot of N 97 features which i feel need to improve e.g. the OVI interface and file management before we can say that N 97 is a clear winner.

  3. I think with OVI, Nokia is planning to cater to its objective of providing a great solution to not just Nokia devices, but other phones as well. And I think OVI as an interface is quite cool!
And also, I don't see any reason why a college-goer would choose I-phone over an N97, as it has all the ingredients (amazing camera, music etc.) a teenager would as much want as an executive! Though I quite agree with what you say Aditya!

  4. Having used an N-95 and tryin hands on N96 i feel its becoming quite repitetive..except for the touchscreen(quite big a diff but still) the package has the same contents..N95 then N96 and then N97 its getting common n the same, be it the shapes or features..ocoz theyre fully loaded but so were the earlier ones..smthn new n diff wud be welcomed..n iphone n the N series are pretty diff. Iphone is the fancy music buff types but N series can be fun AND real business..never really was crazy bout the iphone.it has mny small features missing which r now essential thanks to nokia..nywz hope theres smthn diff comin up soon..like 5800 the xpress music touch screen was a wonderful surprise at a wonderful price..dat keeps nokia in the game!

  9. Sorry to be posting a query again. Or you might even pursue it as a comment with a gray shade. But don't you think that Nokia 5800 is good enough if one is not totally in love with the touch functionality. Comparisons have already started between N97 and Nokia 5800. Some are even saying that N97 is just 5800+Touch feature. I hope the prices of N97 get slashed so that I can try my hands on it.

  11. I think you have some confusion...Nokia 5800 is a total touchscreen phone...And N97 is touchscreen plus a QWERTY keyboard...And the functionality is far advanced in N97...the camera is 5MP which is 3 MP in 5800....The internal memory in 5800 is far lesser than N97, which has 16GB!! Add to it features like haptic touch which have never been introduced in any Nokia phone!

  12. hope the batteries dont have to be replaced annually jus coz they can be replaced :P

  15. Hey 4.5 hours of continuous HD video playback, now thats huge!

  16. Simple facts..pure objective unadulterated facts, one doesn't need to go too far to find out which one is better! The specs speak for themselves!

  17. I quite agree Nipun...quite my sentiment! If not anything else, one needs a good camera and great memory for any smart phone to be a success..Everything else though is definitely an added advantage!

  18. why is the keyboard called qwerty ???

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think bcoz the first 6 keys are q w e r t y !

    ReplyDelete
  24. Absolutely...and rightly so...I think it'll kill quite many phones once it is in the market!

  25. Hey I was in love with the Iphone but this post makes me feel bad about my love :(

  28. Am sure once it launches, many will be ;P

  29. But seriously guys, the purpose is not to downgrade any phone. Objectively speaking, if the features are better, and cost around the same, why would I go for an Iphone! Anybody will rather wait for the N97!
